JCD-02-COLLIER- JOE & CO X HEWITT HERITAGE FABRICS I have teamed up with our good friend Chris over at Hewitt Heritage fabrics to produce a stunning 14.5oz white line raw selvedge denim, woven on an old vintage 1950s Northrop shuttle loom, woven in the foothills of Lancashire The selvedge denim is woven on 2 1950s Bkackburn Northrop power looms. These looms produce a uniquely characterful denim with a beautiful look and feel The looms are as far from the modern looms used in Japanese, Italian or Turkish denim mlls as one can get. Due to this, they are unable to produce denim that won't have subtle inconsistences. These are caused by the age of the looms and what is referered to in the industry as Loom Chatter, this chatter causes the selvedge denim at times to have a NEP look and feel. Nep is caused when the shuttle pushes in a broken and knotted fill yarn which results in it protuding from the warp surface One of the most visible examples of this is, what is called the broken fill (weft) yarn 'defect' thst pops up ever so often. Prior to the 1970s most workwear companies sold their denim products with broken twill yarns. These sublte inconsistencies produced by these vintsge looms create a denim of remininsent of that era and much like vintage jeans we love and grew up in. Like any denim nep and broken fill lines will fade with time,wash and wear, however this sometimes exaggerated exposure of the ecru weft yarn leads to a singulary unique trait of horizontal and vertical fade These are rope dyed with 12 dips using Dyestar Indigo 40% solution which allows a cleaner denim production and has a mssive impact on resourse and finishing, such as a reduction of the sodium hydrosulfate usage by 60-70%, with a much cleaner waste water and less water useage Hand cut and engineered in the NW of England. We were very happy to send the belts out to Brian as we knew he was a pretty big boot influencer on Instagram (check him out here) and prayed that he like our belts! His Instagram bio defines his style as rugged, rustic and refined. We have loved the great boot posts he makes. The great thing was that he loved his belts and wanted to order some oxblood belts which we unfortunately didn't carry in our store. However, we have always loved oxblood colored leather. The rich dark hues of red on oxblood leather looks rich and luxurious and adds an understated sophistication to any outfit. Also, it is a less common color which we like. But we don't understand why! It is a super easy color to match. You know it looks cool with any color. No rules like "No black on brown or brown on black". With Oxblood there should be only one rule..wear it with everything, everywhere and all the time! So, we contacted Brian and asked if he would be interested in collaborating with us to make a personalized belt in Oxblood that he would like. We started with the leather and we wanted to make this a little bit special or rather uncommon to find in Nordic EDC. We wanted this belt to be really special with some unusual design choices. We started with the leather. For this one we chose a beautiful 9-10 oz Italian bridle butt leather which is smooth and stiff to start with but will become supple and age beautifully with some quality wear time. Bridle leather's history dates back to over 200 years and is traditionally used in horse saddles as it is water resistant. Over time this leather acquires a unique patina as they take in natural oils and are polished by repeated handling. We both felt that a classic Garrison buckle in brass or brass with nickel plating will look amazing on this belt. We created a simple Nordic EDC x BootHunter logo as a thank you to Brian and BootHunter and the inspiration they provide to the fantastic boots community on Instagram. We wanted people to feel excited about this personalized belt and so for this belt we decided to offer the service to emboss your initials or name on the belt further personalize this custom handmade belt in addition to custom sizing it to your size. The Okayama Spirit 4 is a 16oz Japanese selvedge denim. The Okayama Spirit series has yielded some of the most beloved denim among hardcore Naked & Famous Denim fans. The latest iteration, the Okayama Sprit 4, has an incredible organic grain designed to age beautifully with high contrast fades. The wild streaks and slubs running through the denim come from using yarns that are thick in some places and thin in others, meaning the indigo dye will be absorbed unevenly allowing the potential for a full range of indigos to present themselves with wear. Low tension weaving creates further irregularity in the fabric for an almost handwoven appearance. Unlike previous Okayama Spirits, this fabric is Sanforized, so there should be minimal shrinkage when soaked or washed.
