Raffle Summary
a.topos Venice is a curatorial collective and nonprofit organization based in Venice and is proud to stand by Beirut. On the 4th of August, a massive double explosion scared Beirut and its citizens forever, causing major physical, material and moral damages to the people and their urbes. Once again, beiruti art spaces, especially artists studios and ateliers, symbols of the Lebanese dynamic and polyvalent art and cultural scene became witnesses and victims of the country violent ethos. In this vein, we are hosting an online charity raffle for the reconstruction of artists studios, ateliers, art, cultural and open dialogue spaces that were severely damaged by the blast. All the funds will be allocated to Haven for Artists and to the Lebanon Solidarity Fund. By participating in the raffle, people help rebuild what used to be an incredibly vivid artistic and cultural life while having the possibility to earn an artwork from a Lebanese artist. The prizes are nine powerful artworks from different Lebanese artists; Ghenwa Abou Fayad, Jasmine Abu Hamdan, Yasmina Hilal, Mansour el Harb (sleeping with the enemy production), Aya Kazoun (sleeping with the enemy production), Yolande Labaki, Roger Maaraoui, Alfred Tarazi and Layal Nakle. This initiative is designed to have two direct impacts, the immediate promotion of Lebanese talents through a.topos and its partners networks, and, most obviously, the activation of vast artistic solidarity chains aimed at the reconstruction of the city. If we cannot be on the ground to rebuild Beirut’s magic and its hurt artistic flair, we will be everywhere else. Let art plays its part!

Layal Nakle My Undomiciliation - My Nation 2020 20x30cm Photography on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta Paper "My undomiciliation is a reflection on absence and migration. At first, this assemblage of photographs taken during my last trip to Lebanon (August 2018) was aimed to portray the absence of the government through empty cityscapes, reflecting the mass migration of Lebanese citizens to foreign countries and the absence of tourists. As the situation has drastically deteriorated since then, these photographs are taking a new meaning, reflecting a more violent situation. Most of the buildings on these photographs have been partly or completely destroyed by the Beirut blast.
