Fundraising for the London Marathon. 100% OF ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BE GOING TO St Peters and St James Hospice Why? I watched my lovely Grandmother decline and pass away from cancer in our local hospital. The facility was set up to cater for her medical needs and the physical needs of the family in her final days but crucially hadn't been set up to offer emotional support before and after her passing. My other Grandmothers have also passed away in similar hospitals and whilst the wonderful staff did all they could for the patient yet again they were unable to offer support to the family after they had passed. When I found out that Lin, my Sister in Laws Mother, had been diagnosed with Cancer I really worried about what support would be available for Lin and the family. This was especially significant knowing how close they are as a family. I didn’t visit Lin at the hospice but I heard from everyone about the support that was offered in the run-up to Lin's final days. The dignity that was offered to Lin, along with the support in managing and coping with the illness and the grief in the period after was such a different experience to the one that I had previously. I was so relieved that this was the case (and angry that not everyone always got this support). I only now really appreciate how much this costs. To be able to be there for the family at this difficult time is essential and I want to raise money to be able to support other families that also go through this.
