Raffle Summary

That's What I Call NAS Prizes! This year, in light of the unprecedented global situation, NAS has taken the opportunity to move its conference online and to create a special international event, with our best line up ever. We have therefore moved our famous raffle online too with some great prizes from our friends and sponsors! This year's raffle is raising money to help conserve objects at risk of being lost on the wreck of the London in the Thames Estuary as part of the Save The London campaign. You can find out more about the campaign and the work of the NAS and the London Shipwreck Trust here: https://www.nauticalarchaeologysociety.org/Appeal/save-the-london

30 Prizes

  • We are very excited to have a copy of The Shipwreck Hunter, signed by the author, David L Mearns. "Winner of the Mountbatten Award for Best Book, 2018 David Mearns has discovered some of the world's most fascinating and elusive shipwrecks. From the mighty battlecruiser HMS Hood to the crumbling wooden skeletons of Vasco da Gama's 16th century fleet, David has searched for and found dozens of sunken vessels in every ocean of the world. The Shipwreck Hunter is an account of David's most intriguing and fascinating finds. It details both the meticulous research and the mid-ocean stamina and courage required to find a wreck miles beneath the sea, as well as the moving human stories that lie behind each of these oceanic tragedies. Combining the derring-do of Indiana Jones with the precision of a surgeon, in The Shipwreck Hunter David Mearns opens a porthole into the shadowy depths of the ocean." One of Britain’s most important Royal Dockyards, it was associated with many great historical figures of their time – great seamen like Sir Francis Drake and Lord Nelson as well as literary legends such as Samuel Pepys and Charles Dickens. The dockyard’s role in supporting the fleet linked it to many of the most significant events in history –from the Spanish Armada to the Cold War. Events that shaped the world we live in today. This book has evolved from a basic set of lecture handouts, into this illustrated glossary of terminology. What cannot be seen from shore are the dark, cold deeps that pockmark Ireland’s coastline and hold secrets from the past. It is estimated that up to 15,000 shipwrecks may lie in Ireland’s designated waters, shipwrecks that tell of cruel wars, thwarted ambitions, political machinations and sunken treasures.
