Raffle Summary

Members of the YPC and friends invite you to a private Christmas Fundraiser in support of the YPC Future Fund and V&A Innovate. WINNERS DRAWN WEDNESDAY 16 DECEMBER 2pm (GMT) via INSTAGRAM LIVE @vam_young_patrons_circle Winners contacted before Christmas or DM YPC email for further details. In this challenging time, we have chosen to fund an inspirational initiative that looks to the future, and goes to the heart of the V&A’s mission: V&A Innovate. Designed to inspire the ingenuity of the nation’s children aged 11 to 14, V&A Innovate is a national schools challenge asking students to design a solution to a real-world problem. By providing online tool kits, and teacher training, and hosting a Pitching and Awards Day, Innovate empowers young people with vital creative thinking, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills for the 21st century. Together, we aim to fundraise £25,000 towards the full project budget of £120,000. The YPC Future Fund will enable the Pitching and Awards Day to be held, cover all associated costs for finalists to come to the V&A, and provide professional development sessions for teachers as well as online content for one of this year’s themes. With your help, Innovate will advocate for a shift in thinking towards the value of Design and Technology in schools and inspire the next generation of artists, designers and innovators.

  • At Delfina Foundation, food has played a central role since its establishment in 2007 – a legacy brought forth from its predecessor, Delfina Studio Trust (1988-2006). The practice of shared meals quickly formed a core part of the residency experience, with 'Family Lunch' becoming a widely-recognised and much-loved institution. These regular convivial home-cooked meals bring together the Delfina household’s artists and curators-in- residence with the wider global art community, inviting guests, ranging from creative practitioners, galleries, writers, to collectors; offering an intimate space of reflection, discussion and connection through the work of the residents. As observed by Amy Sherlock in Frieze Magazine, the Delfina dining table serves “not only as the site of offering and exchange but also as a classroom”. Redeemable up to 1 year after winning date. • Walk The Line with the project’s Co-Founder and Director, Megan Piper. Your tour will start at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and will take you along the River Lea to Cody Dock, taking in works by Anish Kapoor, Carsten Höller, Thomas J Price, Abigail Fallis and Joanna Rajkowska. www.the-line.org The Line was co-founded by Megan Piper and the late regeneration expert Clive Dutton OBE (1953-2015) whose life’s work was rooted in a commitment to improving the quality of life for people in urban environments and putting art and culture at the heart of regeneration. Local support and engagement with grassroots organisations were key to the development of The Line and continue to be fundamental to its success. Please note: The tour will be for up to ten guests (Covid-restrictions permitting). Tickets to Anish Kapoor's ArcelorMittal Orbit and Carsten Höller's Slide will be in addition to the cost of the tour. Redeemable up to 6 months after winning date. The regeneration of London’s Docks and the surrounding area has long been hampered by a lack of connectivity both physical and psychological. The Line brilliantly delivers a thread that ties the area together – suddenly Greenwich Peninsula becomes part of a route that meanders up the Lea Valley to Stratford. It’s an art exhibition that does more than most – it recognises the importance of culture as a key part of city making; it encourages walking and cycling and it leads us to pieces of city that we might not otherwise discover. And it is accessible to all. It is a fine monument to the enthusiasm and curatorial skill of Megan Piper and an appropriate memorial to Clive Dutton whose planning vision we sorely miss. • Christophe Egret is a co-founding partner of Studio Egret West; Studio Egret West was set up back in 2004, Christophe and David West had the ambition to reunite urban design and architecture. This led them to a path that is less concerned with aesthetics for its own sake and more with the qualities of place, be it as an experience of social cohesion or a memorable space that lifts the spirit. Christophe has donated a painting which is a reflection on an architecture of aggregation in preference to a monolithic architectural solution. Here the aggregation principle opens the road for future additions in a continuous process of evolving composition. The image is on a thick handmade watercolour paper in A3 format (30cmx42.5cm) using black ink and watercolours. It is as yet unframed. Christophe loves discovering the qualities of places and buildings through painting and drawing and sharing this visual communication with colleagues and clients, testing through these the design principles that they establish on every project. This is a skill he learnt and cultivated while working with Will Alsop when he completed, amongst other projects, the Peckham Library, winner of the Stirling Prize in 2000. VALUE: 750GBP

  • A personal contribution from Phineas Harper, Director of Open City. The work is a response to being asked to make a drawing which expressed an idea of radical architecture, "What is Radical Today?" It is titled Cairn and is 510 x 480mm in size. The drawing was exhibited at the RA for the duration of the exhibition and featured in that season's issue of the RA magazine. Since prehistory, cairns stand as collectively-built pieces of way-finding infrastructure. Simple columns of rocks made and maintained organically by travellers to mark paths in remote places. In fine weather, walkers pick up nearby rocks and place them on the cairn, constantly maintaining the humble structure as they pass. As fog descends, cairns stand out from the gloom allowing the lost to find their way to safety. There is no exchange of money and no commissioning client. Yet, from nothing, useful, even life-saving architectural elements emerge. In monetary terms cairns are worthless but what could be more valuable? Giclée print on Hahnemühle German Etching paper. • Kew is currently running the exhibition, ‘A Legacy of Ancient Oaks’ presenting drawings of 20 ancient oaks The drawings convey the stark architectural beauty of Britain’s most iconic ancient oaks, many of which are more than 1,000 years old. The artist, Mark Frith, captures the individual character and majesty of each tree in winter, with the tree trunks, bark and branches shown in all their intricacy. In conjunction with this exhibition, a book about Mark’s work was published and the winner of this prize will receive a hardback copy. This beautiful book is a celebration of the mighty oak, through the passion and vision of artist Mark Frith. Mark has drawn large scale portraits of 22 of Britain's oldest living oaks, with exceptional detail conveyed in these intricate graphite works, bringing the ancient features of these majestic individuals to life on the page. Growing up in the Gloucestershire countryside, Mark enjoyed a childhood experiencing the natural world and in particular developed a huge closeness to a local ancient character - the Great Oak at Nibley Green. Mark would return to this tree in 2010 as the first of his series of oak drawings, commissioned by the publisher, poet, philanthropist and planter of trees Felix Dennis. These large-scale drawings measuring 1.7 m wide took Mark three and a half years to complete and were finished just before Felix Dennis's death in 2014. Following Felix Dennis's wishes, his estate bequeathed 10 of the drawings to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Value: N/A

CHARLOTTE COLBERT BIO Language, psychoanalysis, socio-political constructions of gender and identity are at the heart of Colbert’s practice. Spanning film, photography, ceramics and sculpture, she questions narrative structures and storytelling, weaving surreal and fantastical mise en scene in a documentarian approach to characters, figures and people. Fiction becomes a way to approach the truth and the most intimate emotions. Straddling the fine line between fine art and film, Colbert’s films have strong philosophical undertones and often play on questions of time, space and identity, often dark and surreal with a hint of comedy. Selected Shows: Mademoiselle, CRAC Centre Regional d Art Contemporain Occitanie, Sete, France (2018); From Selfie to Self Expression, Saatchi Gallery, London, UK (2017), Daydreaming with Stanely Kubrick; Guests V&A Museum of Childhood, London, UK; Istanbul International Art fair; Art Basel; Small is Beautiful, Flowers Gallery; Dancing at the edge of the World, Sara Zanin, Rome; Birth, TJ Boulting. Selected Film: She Will (Alice Krige, Rupert Everett, Malcolm McDowell) The Silent Man (Simon Amstell, Cillian Murphy, Sophie Kennedy Clark); The Girl With Liquid Eyes (Bill Nighy) Value: N/A GBP

  • Isabel is a young London based artist. She uses mixed media on canvas to develop soothing colours and textures. Isabel attended Bristol and Oxford universities; her background working in mental health informs and inspires her artwork. The distressed quality to her work is reminiscent of how experience and imperfections can add to beauty and create depth to a story. She is concerned about the environment and our symbiotic relationship with nature. She believes that immersing ourselves in and taking care of nature can improve our wellbeing, which is why this is the subject of her work. Isabel also works as a designer for an ethical, sustainable clothing company in London. Isabel is featured on the SAATCHI gallery website and is a continued supporter of the V&A. https://www.isabelaveryart.com/ VALUE 150 GBP
