Raffle Summary

Here we have a rare 8th gen 1988 Toyota Crown Royal Saloon in grey pearl. It has a Supercharged 2.0L (1988cc) 1G-GZE, twin cam, 24 valve straight six engine. "Widely regarded as a living legend, the Toyota Crown currently in its 15th generation is the world's longest running sedan, in production since 1955." A quote from a great article on Drive Tribe that can read here; https://drivetribe.com/p/toyota-crown-and-the-history-of-QmxW9IvhQ2qug5K5HFGfYg

1 Prize

  • Toyota Crown Royal Saloon 2.0L Supercharged (1988). Key features; • 115,196km (71,580 miles). • 4 speed auto with overdrive and 2 selectable modes - Power / Economy. • Cruise Control. • Central Locking and electric windows all round. • Electronic fully adjustable drivers seat including lumbar support. • Air conditioning, with vents to the rear & controls for the back seat passengers. • Refrigerated compartment located in the back shelf. • Unmarked velour interior complete with full set of OEM Crown mats in vgc. I collected the car from Southampton on 19th September 2019 direct from an export company in Japan. The car has been dry stored throughout most of 2020 and during the lockdowns. One of the unique features is a "Swing" button on the dash to oscillate the air from the vents side to side. It has a fully adjustable steering column, with memory setting via a lever. There is a “non-smoking” felt lined box in instead of an ash tray and the front/rear cigarette lighters and have never been used. There is a light and small mirror in the glove box, which flips up. The drivers door has buttons to adjust the mirrors and retract them, controls for all the windows, plus door and window lock and a Trunk button to pop open the boot. The boot area is immaculate, with jack and spare wheel. There is a full tool kit in it’s original Toyota bag. It has key operated central locking. Quarter turn to unlock the drivers door and again to unlock the other doors. The insurance is just £180 with Classic Line. The car passed the MOT on 07/08/2020 with just one advisory which was; Shock absorber light misting of oil or has limited damping effect nearside front. Work done prior to MOT; Replaced steering track rod ends (inner and outer). Replaced front anti-roll bar drop links. Replaced gas struts on bonnet. Engine oil, filter & air filter (all purchased from Toyota main dealer). New Fuel filter. New windscreen washer motor. Timing belt replaced in Japan at 104,629km with a sticker on the cover to prove. The alternator was replaced in Japan August, 2017 with the date of replacement sticker on it. The car is absolutely immaculate underneath, inside and the engine bay is also very clean. There is no rust anywhere on the chassis or body. At some point the car has been resprayed in Japan, hence the grade 3 exterior rating. This is common for Japanese cars in general, let alone one that’s 33 years old! I have been advised that the base coat wasn’t allowed to dry for long enough before they applied the top coat. This has resulted in a very interesting look which looks similar to a stainless steel effect in the paintwork. As you would expect for a 33 year old car, there are a few scuffs, on the corners of the front & rear bumpers, and one on the passenger side rear door, which could all be sorted by a smart repair company. The wheels are Kei Hunter Ambush 17" and are in need of a refurb. The air con needs a recharge. It comes with 2 keys and I have a folder of paperwork, including all the import documentation from Japan, including; Invoice for car & shipping from Imeka in Japan. Bill of lading document from Armacup. Customs entry and VAT charge invoice from Kleerfreight. Terminal handling charge invoice from Wallenius Wilhelmsen Terminals. NOVA letter from HMRC. Original Auction sheet (grade 3 exterior and B interior). Export Certificate (both the original and the English version). 8 page CarVX Vehicle History Report from Japan. To sum up, this is a practical modern classic that is only going to increase in value given the current upward trend in the price of Japanese imports. Thanks for looking and good luck!
