Family photo shoot and framed portrait courtesy of Andrew Collier Photography Rosie, our charity's namesake, was a little girl who lived in Altrincham, in the Northwest of England. She was diagnosed with a childhood cancer. The doctors and scientists told her distraught parents that although they would try everything then available, the outcome did not look good. There were few cures, few treatments and no preventative means to combat a disease which in adults is now often containable if not curable. Rosie died aged just 5. That was more than 30 years ago. Since then billions has been poured into research into adult cancer with some spectacular results but childhood cancer remains woefully short of funding. The doctors and scientists who’d treated Rosie told her parents that what was desperately needed was new research, in particular a pump-priming fund to launch new ideas. Rosie’s parents listened and set up our charity, Friends of Rosie. Over the past 30 years, almost every penny raised has gone into pump-priming new ideas which might lead to potential new treatments, prevention and cures. In recent years our focus has been very much on trying to find kinder treatments to help reduce and prevent some of the horrific side effects and long lasting effects of current childhood cancer treatments. Our Young Ambassador, Ruth Grace, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, when she was eight years old. She had a horrific experience throughout her cancer treatment. She endured countless side effects, suffering a severe allergic reaction to one of the chemotherapy drugs, and eventually having her leg amputated. Despite now being cancer-free, the treatment has left Ruth with numerous side effects. She has lost some of her hearing and suffers with severe tinnitus, both of which make her dizzy and nauseous. The treatment has affected her kidneys. She has constant kidney infections and early stage liver damage. In the next few years, she will have several dental procedures as her teeth are so severely damaged from all the sickness. Courtesy of Andrew Collier Photography, this voucher is for a two hour lifestyle family portrait session for a couple or a family (of up to 10 people and a pet if you have one), and a fabulous bespoke framed 8 x 6 photograph from the shoot in an individually made frame of the winner’s choice from our range of over 150 frame styles and colours. This prize is worth £295. Sessions are usually done at the winner’s own home but other locations can be arranged. If the winner lives more than 50 miles away from Warrington (where Andrew is based) then they may be asked for a donation towards the extra fuel cost.
