Treatment for children with cancer is very intensive, at a time when their young bodies are still growing. That’s why Friends of Rosie is 100% committed to funding new and innovative research focused on improving the treatment, diagnosis and prognosis of childhood cancer. Ruth Grace was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, when she was eight years old in October 2016. She had a horrific experience throughout her cancer treatment. She endured countless side effects, suffering a severe allergic reaction to one of the chemotherapy drugs, and eventually having her leg amputated. Despite being cancer-free, the treatment has left Ruth with numerous side effects. She has lost some of her hearing and suffers with severe tinnitus, both of which make her dizzy and nauseous. The treatment has affected her kidneys. She has constant kidney infections and early stage liver damage. In the next few years, she will have several dental procedures as her teeth are so severely damaged from all the sickness. Children’s cancer research receives less funding than any other type of cancer. That’s why we focus on kick-starting new ideas to change the outlook for children with cancer.
