Raffle Summary

The Mary O’Gara Foundation is a non-profit organisation raising awareness and funds for mental health services and dispelling the stigma associated to suicide. We are run by volunteers (family and friends) who all share the same hopes and ambitions for the foundation. We started our journey on 30 May 2020 when our beautiful daughter Mary took her own life and became an angel at the age of 27. Her legacy lives on and we all remember the happy, smiley girl we knew and loved so very much. Our ultimate goal is to support schools in providing their staff with suicide prevention training – something we feel is vital. Current statistics show that four school children a week are lost to suicide in the UK. We found this statistic totally shocking and so knew that tackling this at an early age had to be our priority. We are currently in working with Professional bodies to roll out a program to provide suicide prevention training to members of staff in every high school in Preston and this will be funded by The Mary O'Gara Foundation. We are then hoping to roll this out across Lancashire and want every school to be equipped with staff members who can effectively help a child who desperately needs to reach out and be supported. Suicide is a preventable death and we can all play our part in ensuring this is the case. We as a family have undertaken this training, and whilst it may have been too late for us, it isn't too late for another family to still have their loved one with them. All proceeds raised by this raffle will be used by The Mary O'Gara Foundation to provide as many much needed training sessions as we can, thank you for all of your help and support.
