Released as a charity edition to raise money for the Hero Intiative, a US-based charity which gives financial assistance to comics creators in need, the new printing of the classic Kurt Busiek / George Perez JLA Avengers was limited to just 7,500 copies under a special one-off deal with DC & Marvel owners Warner and Disney. With such limited numbers, demand has been high, and comic shops have only received a small number of what they have ordered. The book has been selling at hugely inflated prices on eBay, and is one of the hottest tickets on the secondary comics market right now. As with many other stores, we have chosen to sell our copies for charity, honouring the intention of the print run. While the Hero Initiative will still see a contribution from the sale of every copy, we have chose to donate proceeds from this raffle to a charity closer to home: Centrepoint, the youth homelessness charity. This is our usual favoured charity, and they provide an essential service in offering what is often a literal lifeline to young homeless people. At just £3 a ticket, this raffle means that even a small amount of change can put you in with a chance to get one of two copies of a book that may never again see a mass-market print run.
