Raffle Summary

The Case of Death and Honey In April this year, UK households faced a record 54 per cent increase in their gas and electricity bills, after regulator Ofgem lifted the maximum rate suppliers can charge to £1,971, reflecting a fourfold increase in the market price of energy. In October this year there will be yet another increase in fuel costs and with inflation being at a 40 year high of 9% millions of families, elderly and children are being pushed further and further to the edge of disaster. Politicians often refer to the economy as being one that 'trickles down' well the only thing trickling down right now are these systemic shocks to those at the bottom and increasingly in the middle who were already struggling to make ends meet, its such a brutal daily reality. This UK government has lost all moral authority and credibility. It has literally staggered (if Sue Gary is to be believed) from one moral crisis to another and whilst many of us are struggling to put food in the bellies of our children MPs who serve us as their constituents are enjoying the very finest of subsidised food and wine, claiming expenses for everything from paperclips to bird houses and all while we the tax payer pay for it. The Chancellor recently announced a package of support well I bet there is not one single politician who refuses the extra money on their first, second or third homes as we the public once again subsidise their energy bills. It is time to do away with this, they earn decent salaries many with places on the boards of big companies or 2nd or 3rd jobs in addition to their amassed wealth through offshore bank accounts where they hide their dubious profits from what can be best described as legalised racketeering. But I digress.... I have dreamed of this book since I knew of its existence, the beauty of the words, the physicality of the book the wonder of its bindings but I cannot in all conscience own a book that can raise enough funds to keep a non referral food bank in business, support a local community group who fills community larder boxes with necessities so that people do not have to deal with the shame and stigma of needing help be they elderly, families or young carers. I shall also once again be supporting the amazing Biscuit Fund a wholly voluntary run group giving out a 'small crumb of hope' to those in need, you can find more information about them at www.biscuitfund.org Home-Start Perth and Kinross will also get another small donation tis year, they're voluntary and non judgmental work with vulnerable families and young people leave me in awe of them. So here I am again asking all of you to support this initiative and in doing so be in with the chance of winning one of only 250 signed and numbered books by world renowned author Neil Gaiman and illustrator extraordinaire Gary Gianni.

1 Prize

  • ******PLEASE READ THE POSTAGE INFORMATION AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS DESCRIPTION***** I have dreamt of this book for many months, since I knew it would be available and when it finally arrived at my door I didn't want to open it, but neither did I not want to see it. So I very gently unpeeled all of the layers and stop in absolute awe of this masterpiece. I gently held it in my hands, I gently flicked through Neil Gaiman wonderful words and a line jumped out at me 'the man's a dunderhead' I felt like Neil was speaking to me as I contemplated what to do about owning such a beautiful piece of art. The illustrations by Gary Gianni, illustrator extraordinaire are just as magnificent and the combination of illustrations, Neil's story and the absolutely stunning binding of the book are a feast for any literary fan. This is a book that is a 'here and now' collectible, not a 'one in the future', it will be a treasure for many years to come. And I must either have gone mad to want to part with it or understood the real depth of poverty and the misery it inflicts on families and parents and to be honest it's probably a little bit of both. So here I am offering you the chance to own this book for the cost of buying as many tickets as you like. I want to do the description of the book justice and to do so I have borrowed from www.arete-editions.com so that it is exact. 175 x 265 mm / 6.9 x 10.4 in, 84 pages. Limited edition of 250 copies plus thirty publisher’s copies. Illustrated by Gary Gianni with forty drawings reproduced by line block and and a full colour, giclée frontispiece tipped in. Numbered and signed by author and artist. Typeset in hot metal Monotype Baskerville and Gill Sans by Effra Press and Typefoundry and letterpress printed in three workings on Zerkall mould-made paper by Hand & Eye Editions. Gilded top edge and deckle-edge foot. Full bound with a ribbed spine in off-white goatskin by Richard Tong at Ludlow Bookbinders to a design by Richard Tong and Gary Gianni. Foil blocked on front and spine. Presented in a black book cloth slipcase with a foil blocked leather panel on its front. I would also like to thank Arete-Editions for allowing me to post about this competition on their social media pages the more people who see this the better, and the quicker it goes. That amazing human being Neil Gaiman has already begun to tweet about me doing this and I am as always grateful to Neil for his support. Now ******POSTAGE AND DELIVERY WILL BE AT YOUR EXPENSE***** I will ship to ANYWHERE in the World, however I cannot say ho long this will take to reach certain countries and I STRONGLY, STRONGLY advise insurance that covers the cost of the book and the postage. In the UK this is not such a problem as my prizes are generally sent next day. **** I urge the winner to pay for POSTAGE with INSURANCE****This is a book that originally cost £395 and is therefore valuable. As you can see from the pictures and the small clip the book will arrive in ALL of its original packaging and is in first class, brand new condition. I will not be held responsible for any damage to the book after it has left me and I will STILL EXPECT YOU TO RELEASE THE FUNDS, so please once again I urge you all to consider paying for postage with insurance on such a rare and valuable book. At all stages you will be notified of where your book is as I have done in previous competitions, I have followed my book on their journey, you can read feedback from previous winners on this site.
