The Lemon Tree is part of a national initiative launched by Music Venue Trust to prevent the closure of hundreds of independent music venues. The venue is one of the most recognised and loved in the music scene in Scotland having played host to many iconic artists including Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem, helped launched the careers of future superstars such as Emeli Sande and Lewis Capaldi, and been at heart of the music and culture scene in Aberdeen for almost 30 years. The Lemon Tree is run by Aberdeen Performing Arts, an award-winning arts charity based in the North East. The charity earns almost 90% of its income from ticket sales, associated activity and trading. The Lemon Tree (along with the other venues run by Aberdeen Performing Arts - the Music Hall and His Majesty's Theatre) closed on 16 March and to date has cancelled more than 300 performances, with 90,000 tickets worth about £3million. 96% of the organisation's staff are furloughed.
