Originally captured on 35mm color slide, the photography was made using the long-exposure technique, with the two bodies occupying the same space with a brief time interval between them. This superimposition gave form to a third figure, an ethereal entity. The analog original was scanned and printed on high-quality photographic paper* in 2007 to participate in the D27 art salon in Leipzig. It is also used as the main promotion image for Distruktur’s first feature Muito Romântico, and appears also as a set object in the film. In the raffle this unique object, this exact print, will be awarded. A piece of art with acquired experience, time and value. The raffle is not an auction. WHY THIS RAFFLE? In 2025, Distruktur lost the atelier that it occupied in Berlin's Karlshorst district for almost five years, between March 2020 and January 2025. The political situation is unfortunate with the continuing advance of the far right. The economic crisis, which has been inflating all the costs of living, is seriously affecting Berlin, especially the cultural sector. The local artists' union, the BBK, whose subsidized studio program allowed Distruktur to have a space to work and keep its archives, has lost strength with the drastic budget cuts that have put hundreds of artists at risk, having lost their workplaces without the slightest chance of finding another one. Unable to find an affordable rental space, everything in the 70 m2 studio had to be moved and stored, for the time being, in Melissa's apartment in Berlin. The collection from 25 years of working together, all the analog film equipment, materials, works of art, negatives, photographs, objects, costumes.... The enormous effort involved in moving from the studio on the ground floor to the apartment on the fifth floor without an elevator, was not only physical, but costly and left a considerable debt. Essa sobreposição deu forma a uma terceira figura, uma entidade etérea. O original analógico foi digitalizado e impresso em papel fotográfico de alta qualidade em 2007* para participar do salão de arte D27 em Leipzig. A foto é a principal imagem de divulgacão do primeiro longa-metragem da dupla Distruktur, Muito Romântico, e é também um objeto de cena no filme. Na rifa, esse objeto único, essa mesma impressão, será sorteada. Uma obra de arte com experiência, tempo e valor adquiridos. A rifa não é um leilão. POR QUE ESSA RIFA? Distruktur sofreu no ano de 2025 a perda do ateliê que ocupou em Berlim, no bairro Karlshorst, por quase cinco anos, entre março de 2020 e janeiro de 2025. O momento político na Alemanha é lamentável, com o avanço da extrema-direita. A crise econômica que vem inflacionando todos os custos da vida e que é mundial, afeta gravemente Berlim, principalmente o setor cultural. Os cortes drásticos no orçamento da cultura colocam em situação de risco centenas de artistas que perderam seus lugares de trabalho sem a menor chance de encontrar outro. Sem poder encontrar um espaço com o custo de aluguel razoável, tudo o que estava no estúdio de quase 70m2 teve que ser movido e estocado, por enquanto, no apartamento onde Melissa vive em Berlim. O acervo de 25 anos de trabalho conjunto, o equipamento de cinema analógico, os materiais, as obras, os negativos…. O enorme esforço despendido em mover o estúdio que era no piso térreo para o apartamento que é no quinto andar sem elevador não foi somente físico, mas custou caro e deixou uma dívida considerável. A venda da obra é o início de uma série de medidas para escoar a produção e reaver os gastos da mudança, enquanto se procura possibilidades para a preservação do acervo e a continuidade do trabalho da dupla Distruktur. * Deutsch DUALITÄTSPRINZIP Die Fotografie mit dem Titel DUALITY PRINCIPLE (Abmessungen 70 x 100 cm), die in kräftigen Rot-, Orange- und Gelbtönen fast monochromatisch erscheint, ist ein Doppelporträt, das die Körper der beiden Hälften von Distruktur, Melissa und Gustavo, in sich vereint. Die ursprünglich auf 35-mm- Farbdiapositiv aufgenommene Fotografie wurde mit einer Langzeitbelichtung gemacht, bei der die beiden Körper mit einem kurzen Zeitabstand denselben Raum einnahmen. Durch diese Überlagerung entstand eine dritte Figur, ein ätherisches Wesen. Das analoge Original wurde gescannt und 2007 auf hochwertiges Fotopapier gedruckt*, um am D27-Kunstsalon in Leipzig teilzunehmen. Es wird auch als Promotionsbild für den ersten Spielfilm von Distruktur, Muito Romântico (2016), verwendet und erscheint auch als Kulissenobjekt im Film. Bei der Verlosung wird dieses einzigartige Objekt, genau dieser Abdruck, zu gewinnen sein. Ein Kunstwerk, das durch Zeit und Erfahrung an Wert gewonnen hat. Die Verlosung ist keine Versteigerung. WARUM DIESE VERLOSUNG? Im Jahr 2025 verlor Distruktur das Atelier in Berlin-Karlshorst, das es fast fünf Jahre lang, von März 2020 bis Januar 2025, bewohnte. Die politische Situation ist durch den anhaltenden Vormarsch der extremen Rechten schwierig. Die Wirtschaftskrise, die alle Lebenshaltungskosten in die Höhe treibt, hat schwerwiegende Auswirkungen auf Berlin, insbesondere auf den Bereich Kultur. Der örtliche Künstler*innenverband BBK, dessen subventioniertes Atelierprogramm uns zum ersten Mal einen Raum zum Arbeiten und zur Aufbewahrung unserer Archive ermöglichte, kämpft weiter, hat aber durch die drastischen Haushaltskürzungen an Kraft verloren. Hunderte von Arbeiter*innen aus der Kunst, Aktivismus, Bildung, Kultur und Gesundheitswesen wurden in Gefahr gebracht, ihre Jobs und Arbeitsplätze zu verlieren, ohne die geringste Chance, einen neuen zu finden. Da es nicht möglich war, einen Raum zu finden, dessen Miete angemessen war, musste alles, was sich in dem 70 m2 großen Studio befand, umziehen und vorläufig in der Wohnung, in der Melissa in Berlin lebt, gelagert werden. Das Ergebnis aus 25 Jahren gemeinsamer Arbeit, die gesamte analoge Filmausrüstung, Materialien, Kunstwerke, Negative, Fotos, Objekte, Kostüme.... Der enorme Aufwand, der mit dem Umzug vom Studio im Erdgeschoss in die Wohnung im fünften Stock ohne Aufzug verbunden war, war nicht nur physisch, sondern auch kostspielig und hinterließ eine bedeutende Schuldenlast. Die Verlosung des Werks Duality Principle ist die erste in einer Reihe von Maßnahmen, die kurzfristig notwendig sind, um die Schulden aus den Umzugskosten zu decken und gleichzeitig nach neuen Wegen für die Bewahrung der Sammlung und die Kontinuität der Arbeit des Distruktur Duos zu finden.
