The Astor Theatre needs our help! During this pandemic arts venues are suffering the most and unsure on when and how they can safely open and where the money is coming in to keep them afloat. The Astor theatre in Deal is no exception and would be a terrible loss to the town if we were to lose this amazing venue. Stagecatz meets at the Astor, providing musical theatre classes to children and young people and we want to help raise money to keep the theatre going. Each week, beginning Friday 3rd July we will be holding the Great Art Raffle. For just £5 a ticket, you could win yourselves a piece of art work from both local artists and those with a connection to Deal and know that your £5 will go towards saving our much loved venue.

Penny's art has been one of the most popular weeks in the Great Art Raffle so we thought we would give you the chance to win another one. This depicts seagulls at Sandwich Bay and was originally displayed at the Sea Cafe. For more info on Penny... “I was brought up in Essex and Devon, graduated in Fine Art Painting from Central School of Art and Design in London in 1981. Since then I've been looking for ways of making painting accessible to all people . I started with street portraiture in London, continuing when I moved to Deal. I run my own art teaching school at Northbourne called Artlark and enjoy running community events which have included a Roman invasion at Walmer and "Paintings on Posts"-the exhibition without walls. The "Spirit of Deal" was a project that aimed to combat the negative effect of the 2008 recession on the High Street where I painted a mural on every boarded up shop and put banners of Artists' work in closed shop windows. I currently run the Seaward Gallery in Deal with my husband Gerry and live vicariously through the exploits of my 3 children” www.pennybearman.co.uk
