  • The amazing, and exclusive, chance of one of the characters in best selling author John Sutherlands latest thriller. What an opportunity for your name or that of a friend/relative or colleague to be printed in ink for the world to read! Sunday Times bestselling author John Sutherland has put pen to paper once again and is writing the second book in his new series of fictional thrillers. As an ex Metropolitan Police Officer, long-term supporter and advocate of Police Care UK John Sutherland is well known within UK policing for his earlier non-fiction books Blue – a story of Johns policing life and battles with mental health issues and Crossing The Line which takes a wider look at policing and what it tells us about the world we 're living in and was a Radio 4 book of the week. Having been a police advisor for other fictional authors, these new books have allowed him to try his hand at a different style of writing and enter the world of fiction. "The Siege is a fast-paced thriller told over the course of one night from three different points of view: a hostage negotiator with the police, a far-right extremist, and a female bystander who gets caught up in a terrorist incident". If chosen, your name will be a character featured within the latest, yet to be named thriller book alongside these characters. John joined the Metropolitan Police in 1992, serving for more than 25 years until being medically retired in 2018. Having won the Baton of Honour as the outstanding recruit in his training school intake, he rose through the ranks to become a senior officer. During his career, he worked in a variety of roles across London, both in uniform and as a detective. He is an experienced hostage and crisis negotiator and Premier League football match commander, whose last operational posting was as the borough commander for Southwark. He said: “As a police officer and hostage negotiator, I spent countless hours listening to people and the stories they had to tell. I listened to criminals and their victims, to the lonely and the lost, to good people having bad days, and to those who had reached the very end of themselves. In retirement, I have spent much of my time reflecting on all that I heard and what it might mean." Police Care UK are the charity for serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered any physical or psychological harm as a result of policing. We are independent of the police service, and are funded entirely by donations and fundraising - we receive no money from government or forces for our work.
