This very rare Neil Gaiman book is being auctioned off in aid of our fundraiser for our friend Katy who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and has been given between 6 and 12 months to live. Katy was a Senior NHS employee who worked what was originally a 2-week secondment, but this then turned into 4 months away from her home and her beloved dogs at the height of the initial Covid-19 outbreak. During this time Katy’s Cancer returned and by the time she had seen an Oncology consultant the news was devastating. In actual fact Katy’s condition is so rare it affects less than 1 in a million people and to combine it with active cancer takes those odds to 1 in 5 million patients. Katy is struggling financially, the benefits system is letting her down, she is struggling to keep a roof over her head and as friends we have all at one point or another sent her dog food by the ton to keep her beloved dogs well fed, the dogs are just as important as breathing to Katy and they are what make her get up each day and start yet another vicious day of radiotherapy treatment. In order for us to reach our target goal we reached out to Neil Gaiman, world renowned and of course multi winning award and New York Times Best Selling author to see if he would be generous enough to donate a signed copy of one of his books. Expecting to get a signed copy of one of his other books we were absolutely astounded when Neil very kindly gave us one of his own collection of the book STARDUST, this book is 1 of only 100 printed at the request of the author and this is stated on the internal pages and is also provenance by Neil’s tweets between us, which as we all know well enough are very public. Neil Gaiman is an author whose books cover many genres such as fantasy, horror, science fiction, dark fantasy and comedy and he has won many, many awards over the years. The book Neil has donated is a full Navy Blue Leather bound with gold gilded page edges and gold lettering on the front cover with intricate gothic style designs on both the front and back covers all of which can be seen from the pictures. This is one of those rare once in a lifetime opportunity to own such a beautiful and wonderful book by such a renowned author. The book itself is unused, and has only been opened to take pictures of the inscriptions and drawings made by Neil himself in October 2020 We have come to the conclusion with some rare book expert opinions that this book would retail at well in excess of £500 if we auctioned it, however like many of his fans we felt that this would be a fabulous opportunity for one of Neil’s fans to have the chance of winning this book and Neil is aware that we are selling this book on to benefit Katy. Tickets will be limited to 200 tickets at £20 per ticket, which is the minimum amount that this platform allows and given that this platform takes a 10 percent of what we raise we will still be under the £4000 mark, however using this platform allows us to operate this raffle legally and in line with the Gambling Commissions guidelines on fund raising. It also allows us to post directly to Facebook.
