RAISING FUNDS FOR CF PATIENTS ACROSS THE UK TO HAVE THEIR OWN SPIROMETER We are all currently living in a time where we fear catching an infection from our friends, our family or strangers we pass in the street. Unfortunately this is a struggle those in the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) community are well aware of, it is daily life to them! Covid-19 is having a huge impact on people with CF. Outpatient appointments have been put on hold and replaced by video conference calls and the wonderful staff pulled onto the front line as they are respiratory experts. The current government advice for those who are considered ‘extremely vulnerable’ to COVID-19 (coronavirus) is social shielding for a period of 12 weeks, this includes all people with cystic fibrosis. THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN - WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have been asked by a CF unit to assist in some fundraising. The unit has been promised equipment as part of a study, which would go out 100 people with CF who attend their unit. This will allow those with CF themselves to keep track of their lung function at home and send the data to their consultants. The centre has 275 people with CF attending and they would like to buy the other 175 people the same lung function equipment so that everyone gets the same fair level of care. We would therefore like to express our thanks and support to the unit by fundraising to ensure that EVERYONE RIGHT ACROSS THE UK can receive their own. It costs £230 for each lung function monitor. This will ensure that in the months ahead and even when this crisis is over, lung function can be monitored remotely and mean that both the person with CF and their CF team can make sure that they remain well.
