While Elmbridge canoe club is one of the most successful competitive racing clubs in the UK, we also welcome paddlers of all ages and abilities. We have plans to make the club more accessible for all and offer something for everyone not only paddling but to include other activities and making use of their beautiful location and amenities. Projects are afoot to adapt and improve the club house, make training easier outside, Covid secure and accessible to all, and more to offer in the hours the clubhouse isn’t used for active members (once Covid restrictions start to lift). As a kick off, we have collaborated with Little Gem Coffee Company and have launched a contactless Valentines Raffle to raise money for the club. We have some fabulous prizes donated by local businesses including paddle board sessions, massages, spa treatments, yoga and personal training sessions, treats and food vouchers and packages, jewellery and lovely luxury gifts. The plan was to be at the club selling from the Little Gem Red Coffee van but sadly the weather and flood barriers have restricted us from doing this, so we have reverted to using an online raffle ticket system and postponed the draw to the Sunday 21th February (the weekend after Valentines day to allow more people to purchase tickets. Virtual tickets will be £2, and are already on sale at the Little Gem Coffee van at The Old Crown Pub too. This will be the first of many local fundraisers, for much needed funds to make the necessary improvements to make Elmbridge Canoe Club a more usable space for the community and encourage outdoor sports once COVID restrictions are lifted. Future plans will be to work with the local schools and youth groups to offer water sports experiences in a safe environment and more importantly water safety courses. Finally, just a quick thank you to everyone who has already come on board to get this off the ground.
