Raffle Summary

Win a seat on board an historic Vulcan bomber aircraft during a fast taxi-run at London Southend Airport on 11 September 2021.

1 Prize

  • You could be on board former Royal Air Force bomber aircraft Avro Vulcan XL426 as it makes a fast taxi-run at London Southend Airport on 11 September 2021. XL426 is one of only three Vulcan aircraft left in live ground running condition. You will sit in one of the three rear crew seats and experience what it was like to be RAF aircrew preparing to take off on a Cold War or Falklands Conflict mission. You will be on board as XL426 is pushed back by air tug onto the airport apron before its four engines are started. With all four engines running, XL426 will then make two runs down the runway before taxiing back to its parking area. The taxi-run is part of the Vulcan Restoration Trust's Fast Taxi-Run event and you will also receive two guest tickets so friends or family can accompany you on the day (please note all entrants to the event must be aged 12 or over). The taxi-run is scheduled to start at 1.00 pm and you should arrive at London Southend Airport by 12.00 pm so you can prepare and receive a safety briefing. Purchase of a raffle ticket doesn't provide entry to the event. Risk and Safety Information: Certain aviation activities such as flying as a passenger with an airline have a legitimate expectation of a very high level of safety. In contrast, some adventurous activities such as parachuting and motor sport carry a higher level of personal risk which participants consent to as part of the recreational value of taking part. In this regard, being on board a Vulcan during a fast taxi-run should be considered an adventurous activity which carries a higher level of risk. You should take this into consideration when deciding if to buy a raffle ticket(s) or not. There is insufficient data about this type of activity to be able to quantify the risk and compare it with other adventurous activities. You may wish to consider that the Vulcan was designed as a military aircraft in the 1950s and was not designed to carry passengers. Vulcan XL426 was built in 1962 and retired from RAF service in 1986. It has been maintained as a live aircraft by the Vulcan Restoration Trust since the 1990s. During taxi-runs, XL426 is operated by ex-RAF aircrew with experience of flying the Vulcan in RAF service. XL426 is fully insured for third party and passenger liability. If you hold personal life assurance or similar policies, you may wish to check as to the extent of your cover when taking part in adventurous activities such as this. The Vulcan's cockpit is accessed by way of a ladder and you must be physically agile enough to climb it unaided. You must also be able to use the ladder to exit the cockpit at pace in the event of an emergency. You must be aged 18 or over to be on board.
