EVERYBODY receives something special when they enter the Guru Ram Das Project charity raffle. Our joint top prizes, each worth about £100, are a pair of tickets for DEVA PREMAL & MITEN in concert (choice of London or Manchester) and a year’s membership of KUNDALINI LOUNGE (the largest online Kundalini Yoga studio). There will also be numerous other prizes for runners up (e.g. books and music, workshops/classes, singing lesson, delivery of flowers), and everyone who enters will receive a special gift (music download for easy listening or meditation). All funds received from this raffle support the work of the Guru Ram Das Project yoga charity (www.grdp.co.uk). We share the practice of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation with those who are vulnerable or in crisis. Our next big project will be the Yoga and Poverty initiative (launching soon). We usually do this by partnering organisations (e.g. St Mungos, NHS, Age UK) already working in a particular field and adding our class or workshop to their existing services. Client groups include older adults, dementia, homeless/ temporary housing, addiction recovery, women’s shelters, children & young people, mental health service users, and those with chronic health conditions. At this time of greatest stress, there are few if any resources available which to meet increased wellbeing needs. Yoga and meditation are a proven cost-effective intervention, excellent for stress reduction and promoting good mental and physical health. We will be setting up free/by donation yoga and meditation classes for those using services such as food banks, community kitchens or financial advice. We will also be supporting others to follow our example, by creating a centre of excellence on yoga and poverty in UK.
