Raffle Summary
This raffle, for a beautiful and rare Penny Dreadful Ghost from the York Ghost Merchants, is in aid of an urgent appeal to raise funds towards life-saving treatment for a young woman from Sunderland, North East England. In a nutshell, Faye has already survived two bouts of childhood leukaemia, aged just 8 and 13. Her second episode was cured with a bone marrow transplant and a healed Faye thrived through her late teens, developing a real gift for songwriting, gaining recognition and critical approval in the regional music scene. Yet in an unbelievably cruel twist of fate, in September this year, aged just 20, Faye was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive glioma brain tumour, with no treatment available on the NHS. However, there is still hope! A ground-breaking clinical trial at the City of Hope hospital, Duarte, California, has confirmed that Faye’s brain cancer type is eligible for potentially curative cell therapy in the USA. Across communities, we must do whatever we can to help Faye raise the huge medical costs of £450,000 to fund the trial and give her that one chance to fight for her life. In just two weeks, a swell of love and support has seen her fundraising total stand at almost £120,000! That potentially unreachable funding target really could be met, if enough people hear and connect with Faye’s story, even amidst the horrendous cost of living crisis and every other very worthwhile charity appeal that so desperately needs our support. But don’t take my word for it, please listen to Faye’s story, in her own words: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0dg38q3, and attached. This raffle is not affiliated in any way with The York Ghost Merchants themselves, although they are aware of Faye’s appeal, and supportive of this endeavour. All proceeds from this raffle will be contributed by me to the Fight for Faye fundraising appeal, in the name of our TYGM Collector community. As Faye’s appeal is not a registered charity (rather her sister, Abigail, is crowdfunding on the JustGiving fundraising platform), screenshots of the total Raffall payment to me, and my subsequent deposit of the exact same total raised here, into Faye's crowdfunding appeal, will be copied to the various York Ghost Merchants Collector group Facebook pages, and with public posts via the Fight for Faye Twitter account (run by Abigail) and on my own Facebook. Good luck everyone and thanks for taking the time to read or listen. Please buy at least one raffle ticket if you possibly can and may this very special Penny Dreadful Ghost choose to haunt you!
1 Prize
Handmade by The York Ghost Merchants in The Shambles, York, the Penny Dreadful takes its name from the cheap popular serial pieces of literature of the nineteenth century which were published in weekly parts, each costing one penny. The subject matter of these stories was typically sensational, focusing on the exploits of criminals, or supernatural entities. The body is a polished ebony black. In the base of this Ghost lies an 1884 brass penny. Being almost 140 years old, the coin holds marks and history of its own. Having passed through the hands of many, the imagined stories are preserved in these Ghosts for good. The first batch of forty 1900 Penny Dreadfuls were released online and in the shop in October 2020. Due to the third pandemic lockdown, the next batch of fifty 1901 Penny Dreadfuls were sold on the TYGM website only. A batch of 1890’s Penny Dreadfuls are occasionally made for sale in very limited numbers and exclusively through the TYGM shop on the Shambles, as is a smaller 'Boo' sized Ghost with silver threepence coin in the base. This 1880's edition Penny Dreadful has only very recently become available through the shop and therefore represents a true Collector's piece and prize for one fortuitous supporter of this raffle and our community Fight for Faye.
