Raffle Summary

APSL UK Solar Village Project Fund Raiser ( Raffall.com Online Prize Competition) 1. Why are we running this fundraising raffle? Rural communities in Sri Lanka who are off the national grid or who cannot afford alternative energy sources are trapped in poverty. Lighting comes from kerosene lamps, cooking is with firewood, and clean drinking water is rare. This impacts children, women and vulnerable people, and entire families who live in small, poorly lit houses with serious risk of damage to their health and well-being and who cannot escape the poverty cycle. The APSL UK Solar Villages project has been developed so that rural communities are empowered and will learn to help themselves in meeting their energy and other needs. Through expert advice by APSL UK volunteers, help and support will be given to reduce poverty in those communities. 2. Our previous projects APSL UK, a registered UK charity, has already established five solar villages which are being run extremely well and which have had tangible and sustainable benefits to those communities. These have included setting up or support to nursery and primary schools and their libraries; solar water pumping; water purification and selling clean drinking water to adjacent villages thus preventing kidney and other diseases; lowering pollution; providing micro-credits to individuals; tree planting; bee keeping and organic agriculture for enhancing income for families, etc. 3. Our aims APSL UK is organising a fund-raiser via Raffall.com, an established UK online public raffle platform to expand these good works. The funds generated will, in the first instance be applied to establishing three new solar villages in Sri Lanka, situated in the North, East and the South. With experience gained, having established five large solar villages in Sri Lanka, APSL UK will identify and support suitable village clusters to expand the solar village projects. The revenue will be managed by the village development committee in a fully transparent way for sustainable development of those communities, with expert advice. The estimated cost of each Solar village project is approximately £5000. The target is thus £15,000+. Further information about how the project is currently organised and managed can be found at: https://www.apsl.org.uk/apsl-projects/apsl-solar-villages/ 4. How can you help? You can help in the following ways: i. Create an account with Raffal.com. ii. Buy as many raffle tickets as you wish to support this good course (each ticket costs £5 with no maximum limit per person). iii. Become an “affiliate” of the Raffle, promote the fundraiser on your own social media, and earn a 10% reward on raffle tickets sold through your personalized affiliate link. This is paid by Raffall.com directly. iv. Promote the fundraiser on your own social media. The more people who purchase tickets through your link, the more commission you earn. You may choose to donate your commission directly to APSL or another charity of your choice, if you do not want to keep it. The number of villages provided solar panels will depend on the amounts raised. If more money is raised above the requirement for three solar villages APSL may decide to build more villages once suitable villages are identified and/or divert excess proceeds to its other charitable projects.
